Workshop - "Fortepiano"
These Pieces are part of a 12 week workshop I did for the class Graphic Design 4, In which my peers and I designed 5 pieces based around a word of our choice. The word I chose was "Fortepiano" (translated from Italian literally as "loudsoft"), which is a notation in sheet music indicating a sudden dynamic shift.
The pieces depicted include the 3D piece (wooden coins) and Reflective pieces (to be added).
The 3D piece is a reflection of the word Fortepiano (a dynamic shift) in relation to spiritual teachings, and the power physical and symbolic icons can have of ones everyday life. Influence for this concept came from personal interest in taoist theory and the I Ching, which influenced my decision to create a 3 coin set. The imagery I use on the piece is of sacred geometric patterns, being a visual representation of spirituality with supporting quotes on the bottom relating to the ever changing nature of life. The coins are made of wood to to resemble strength and relate back to the duality of nature and man made technology (i.e Lazercutting).
Quoted on the coins are the lines:
"Nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists" (A course of miracles as quoted by JAY-Z)
"When I let go of who I am, I become who I might be"
"As soon as virtue os being known as something good, it becomes evil" (Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu)
"When a mystery is too overpowering, one dare not disobey, absurd as it might seem to be" (The Little Prince , Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).
(This section will be updated to include info on the Reflective piece, which will be added later)

"CARE PACKAGE" Product design.
This was created as project for the class Graphic Design 3 at OCAD University. The concept behind the design was to create a subscription box geared towards families who have children suffering from a mental illness such as ADHD. These boxes would include a small informational booklet for parents to learn about things like proper nutrition for their children, information on the related mental illness, possible family activities, and other articles that may interest of help affected parents. Also included would be Supplements for children or parents (labelled accordingly) as well as a small game, toy or puzzle for the child.
The Design of the box was created to be small enough to fit in a mailbox for ease of shipping, while holding important enough material that it would be worth subscribing to (the dimensions of the box are 5" x 7" x 2.75"). The label that wraps around the box was designed to graphically designed to be recognized by the children of these parents while still maintaining a strong overall identity. This allowed me to use more diverse typographic work, strong colours and more abstract, child-friendly patterns.
WEEKNINE "No Rules" Cover Art / Typographic Exploration.
A look at type manipulation, textures and graphic styling for music single covers. In this exploration I gave myself an hour to create interesting graphic solutions with only the song title, a quick listen, and the idea of repetition in mind.
